Tharus torch eight VDC offices
DANG: The Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee activists torched eight village development committee offices in Dang’s Deukhuri valley last night, destroying all the furniture and documents.
Offices of Gobardiha, Gangaparspur, Gadhawa, Lalmatiya, Sishaniya,Sonapur, Bela and Rajpur VDCs were destroyed.
Local administration imposed a curfew yesterday night to escort vehicles stranded in Dang section of the East-West Highway.
The indefinite curfew imposed by Sunsari administration on East-West Highway and sections of Koshi highway continues. The Tharus’ struggle has affected activities in Sunsari’s Dharan and Itahari and other townships. Bandh supporters vandalised three vehicles in Khanar, two trucks in Duhabi and a night bus in Jhumka this morning.
In Nawalparasi, Tharuhat activists clashed with the police in the afternoon in their bid to obstruct the highway. Police charged batons and fired more than 10 tear gas shells to control the mob.
They also detained some bandh enforcers from the site. Transport, shops, industries and educational institutions ran normally in Sunwal-Parasi areas.
The TJSC torched a truck in Santapur of Rautahat today. In the northern part of the district, no vehicles plied while industries and educational institutions remained shut. The cadres padlocked Butwal and Siddharthanar municipality offices in Rupandehi.
