Tharus’ indefinite bandh called off, traffic resumes
Siraha, February 10;
Vehicular movement in Lahan resumed from last night after the indefinite Tharuhath bandh called jointly by the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha (TKS) and the Federation of Indigenous Janajatis (FIJ) was called off.
The indefinite bandh was called off at 6 pm yesterday after the government called the Federation of Indigenous Janajatis for a dialogue. The TKS and FIJ had called an indefinite bandh in Lahan, demanding that the Terai region having a majority of the Tharu community be declared a Tharuhath State and a proportion election system be adopted.
The two organisations had called the bandh on Thursday, soon after the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum called off its agitation in the Terai region.
Business activities and transportation service in Lahan resumed after 26 days today after the bandh was called off.
The chairman of the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha Chandra Kishor Kalyan Chaudhari said the bandh was withdrawn until further direction from the centre.
Chairman of the FIJ Rajendra Chaudhari said a Valley bandh will be called on February 15 and a Nepal bandh on February 28 if their demands were not met.
