KATHMANDU, JANUARY 3

The government has decided to give an additional dose of vaccine against coronavirus for the most vulnerable people who have already received two jabs at least three months ago.

Issuing a notice today, the Ministry of Health and Population said that people with immunodeficiency, those living with active cancer or HIV, transplant recipients, people taking immunosuppressive drugs during their medical treatment, and those above 60 who have got both the doses of Verocell or Sinopharm vaccine will be given an additional dose of the same vaccine against the coronavirus infection.

Only those who had taken the second dose of the vaccine at least three months ago are eligible for the third, adds the notice.

There will be homologous vaccination.

The additional dose of the vaccine will be given to those who have taken both the doses of the same vaccine.

"All those who fall in the above category are requested to visit nearby health centres with their vaccination card," the health ministry said.

According to the health ministry, this is not a booster dose, but an additional dose for those with low immunity.

"People can get the additional dose of vaccine from tomorrow onwards," said Samir Kumar Adhikari, assistant spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population.

The ministry, however, has not decided anything about additional doses for others.
