13 killed, 10 hurt in Palpa bus plunge

Bhairahawa, June 1

Thirteen people, including four females, were killed while 10 others sustained injuries when a bus carrying members and staff of a cooperative met with an accident at Humin of Rambha Rural Municipality, in Palpa, this morning.

According to Bhairahawa Senior Superintendent of Police Rajendra Dhakal, the bus carrying members and staff of Tansen-based Laxmi Saving and Credit Cooperative for an observation tour was heading to Rampur. It fell 200 metres down the slippery gravelled road when the road collapsed.



The bus helper miraculously escaped unhurt and has been at large.

The deceased have been identified as Bishnuman Bajracharya, Devendralal Pradhan, Krishnaman Pradhan, Chhatraman Shakya, Sushil Prasad Shrestha, Sachin Bajracharya, Krishna Bahadur Bohara, Durga Bahadur Saru, Loknath Dhakal, Kamala Karki, Basanti Khand and Gita Budhathoki, informed Palpa District Police Office Chief Superintendent of Police Dilli Raj Panta.

A woman’s body is yet to be identified.

“The process of handing over bodies to their kin after post-mortem is under way,” said SP Panta.

Eleven of deceased died on the spot, while two — Kamala Karki and Sachin Bajracharya — breathed their last while undergoing treatment at Lumbini Medical College and Mission Hospital Palpa, respectively.

Nine of the injured have been receiving treatment at Mission Hospital, while another is receiving treatment at Lumbini Medical College in Prabash.
