RAUTAHAT, AUGUST 11
Three children went missing after reportedly drowning while bathing in the Lalbakaiya River at Laxminiya in Dewahi Gonahi Municipality-2, Rautahat, on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident was reported at around 1:50 pm, following which teams from the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were deployed to the site and began a search operation.
The missing children have been identified as 10-year-old Mohammad Ramtullah, son of Sheikh Amre Alam; 10-year-old Raushan Khatun, daughter of Sheikh Khurause; and 10-year-old Sabanam Khatun, daughter of Sheikh Osi Akhtar. All three are residents of Laxminiya.
A seven-member Armed Police Force team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhakta Bahadur Shahi and a 16-member Nepal Police team led by Police Inspector Tej Prasad Bhattarai were deployed to the site for the initial search, according to security sources.
The search and rescue operation was expanded after a nine-member diving and rescue team from the Armed Police Force's No. 11 Battalion Headquarters in Rautahat was dispatched to the site at around 2:40 pm.
The team, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Bhim Bahadur Pun, was sent along with a rubber boat to assist in the search, the District Police Office, Rautahat, said.
Security personnel and local residents are also taking part in the search for the missing children.
