Three involved in Birgunj explosions arrested

BIRGUNJ: Parsa Police have arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the explosions that occurred in two locations of Birgunj on August 9 and August 13.

Inus Ansari, Saddam Ansari, and Jauwad Ansari also known as Tiger -- all residents of Birgunj Metropolitan City-24 -- have been taken under police custody on the charge of carrying out explosions in Birta bazaar area on August 9 and another explosion at Maisthan bazaar on August 13.

It has been learnt that Jauwad Ansari is the younger brother of Phulhasan Ansari, who is understood to be the mastermind behind these explosions. Similarly, Inus Ansari is his cousin. Phulhasan is presently on the run. Parsa Police have stated that search for him is going on.

Earlier, a person named 'Vivek Singh' had claimed responsibility for the blast of August 9. Singh claimed responsibility by contacting a local daily from an Indian number stating that the explosion was carried out to protest the ill-treatment of his friends and inmates at the prison in Birgunj, and warned of further explosions if the issue was not addressed. It has been reported that Singh and Phulhasan are the same person.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Somendra Singh Rathore, four rounds of bullets, other explosive-like items, and two sets of mobile phones were seized from the possession of those arrested. They were taken under custody from their residence by a team of police.

SP Rathore has claimed that the arrestees carried out the explosions to spread fear among the people, adding that they have been remanded in judicial custody for seven days for further investigation into the case.
