Meeting of three-party, UDMF talks teams ends inconclusively

KATHMANDU: The meeting of the talks teams of three major parties and United Democratic Madhesi Front on Tuesday ended inconclusively as the UDMF representatives sought concrete agenda on various issues for discussion.

In the meeting, the UDMF team put forth a proposal for the amendment of various provisions, including those related to citizenship, demarcation of provinces, fixation of electoral constituencies  based on population density and inclusive and proportional representation, in the Constitution.

The members of the UDMF team told the three-party representatives the UDMF would not withdraw the agitation and continue the obstruction at the Nepal-India border unless its demands are addressed.

The members of both the teams parted their ways with an understanding to hold next meeting tomorrow.

Nepali Congress leader and Minister Mahesh Acharya, UCPN-Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha and CPN-UML leader Agni Kharel are the members of the three-party talks team.

Laxman Lal Karna of Sadbhawana Party, Sarvendra Nath Shukla of Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party, Lal Babu Raut of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal and Ram Naresh Ray of Tarai Madhesh Sadbhawana Party are in the UDMF talks team.

The meeting was held at Singhadarbar.
