KATHMANDU, JANUARY 288
The visible effect of the obstruction to accessibility of government sites was seen at Tribhuvan International Airport where at least six international flights were halted for hours, and hundreds of inbound passengers were stuck in the Airport Immigration, after the website of the Department of Immigration went kaput.
TIA Spokesperson Teknath Sitaula said flights bound for Qatar and New Delhi were held up for hours after passengers' details were not cleared by the Department of Immigration.
The DoI has to provide details of every traveller leaving or entering the country.
The details are updated on the website. However, after the website crashed, their information was not cleared hence the flights were delayed.
Sitaula also said a panic situation had resulted inside the airport Immigration and at least 500 inbound passengers, were stuck inside the airport after the immigration failed to clear their names. - HNS
