BHIMDUTTANAGAR: The census of world's rare wildlife, tiger, has begun at Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve on Wednesday.

According to the Shuklaphana Wildlife Reserve Office, Majhagaun, the tiger counting of this year has started with the camera trapping technology.

"We have floated a plan to complete the tiger census within a month by dividing the Reserve area into different groups" informed Chief Conservation Officer at the Reserve, Bed Kumar Dhakal.

He informed that a section of trained local employees of the Reserve had already reached out to the field for tiger count. At least 24 employees would be deputed for the task, he informed, adding the count will be carried out with the help of elephants and technologies.

The census has been put on the top priority in potential areas of the Reserve – which is stretched over 305 square kilometres, the Reserve Office stated.

The tiger counting has been continuously being undertaken in the Reserve for the past eight years. As many as 17 tigers were found in last year's census, the Office informed.

The Nepal Army's Bhawani Box Battalion, Majagaun Barrack and Kanchanpur District Forest Office are also taking part in the census.
