Tight checks reduce timber smuggling from Sunsari

Following some strict checking by security bodies, the rampant business of illegal timber supply has come to a close in some cities of Sunsari. Revenue avoidance, which had become the main income source of people located in the southern part of the district on the Indo-Nepal border, was no longer possible after the strict vigilance of security bodies.

Yet in place of these illegal activities has risen a new evil, as the supply of illegal drugs is increasing these days.

Suppliers cross the border by bicycle or on foot, carrying the drugs in a bag, which is only possible in small quantities, which they take each time. They are then sold in the cities of the district.

Various Indian produced drugs including Phensidryl cough syrup, Nitrogen tablets and ampoule are supplied to Nepal. Drug suppliers are especially selling Tidizesic, putting it into mineral bottles. A person involved in the business, on condion of anonymity, said that a huge group has shifted to the border and are using poor locals to carry out their chores for them. According to him, they put solid drugs within their produce in trucks and liquid drugs in empty coca cola bottles while crossing the border.

According to sources, local police administration could not possibly find these hidden narcotics, because many soft drinks are sold there. It is reported that some local administration staff knew about this, but they are not taking any action against them, since they are receiving a regular flow of bribes in order to keep quiet.
