Damak, December 14:

Locals of Damak municipality-13, saying that they were not provided with land holdings, have launched an agitation.

The agitating locals have demanded the issuance of land ownership certificates at

the earliest. They submitted a memorandum to Pashupati Khatiwada, executive officer at Damak municipality today, urging authorities to immediately meet their demand.

The tillers working on 689 plots of land are demanding ownership of the land, claiming they had been cultivating it for a long time.

A task force formed by the CPN-Maoist to address their concern has been blamed of not being inclusive. Struggle committee member Lila Bajgain said, “The committee formed under the coordination of Maoist CA member Biswhodip Linden is not inclusive in nature, and, hence, unacceptable to us.” Govinda Thapa, the struggle committee coordinator, threatened to padlock the municipality and land survey offices indefinitely if no action was taken on their demand.
