Time to strive for prosperity: Veep

Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun today stressed the need for unity among parties and people from all communities for effective implementation of the new constitution.

Inaugurating a three-day Second National Pork Festival in Pokhara, Pun said the country should now strive for prosperity through development in areas like tourism, agriculture, hydro electricity, medical herbs and industries, among others.

“The country has witnessed the new statute after a series of political movements.

Hence, now is the time to strive for prosperity by creating job opportunities,” he reiterated.

Minister for Livestock Development Shanta Manavi said the government was working to make the country self-reliant in egg, meat and milk in one, two and three years respectively.

He also said that the country imported meat worth Rs 19 billion per year.

Meanwhile, lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari stressed the need for introducing modern machine to refine pork.

As many as 46 stalls have been set up at the pork fair, said Chhyam Bahadur Thapa, coordinator of the festival.
