TJSC announces indefinite shutdown
Kathmandu, November 9
Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee today announced indefinite strike beginning next week.
Organising a press meet in Kathmandu today, TJSC said they would launch nationwide indefinite strike from November 21. It said a torch rally would be held on November 20 and copies of the new constitution would be burned on November 7 and 27.
They have also decided to hold talks with other parties and groups, who are willing to support them in their agitation.
Dhani Ram Chaudhary, chairperson, TJSC said, “We don’t have differences with the agitating Madhes based parties but we are against north-south delineation of provinces. We have been compelled to launch protest as the government has left us with no choice,” he added.
Aman Lal Modi, spokesperson for the committee, said their agendas are purely related to Tharu community and should not be mistaken with the agenda of agitating Madhes-based parties. “We will continue our agitation until our demands are addressed,” he said.
Modi further said they are for dividing Tarai into three provinces.
