Tourists in the Solukhumbu district have found themselves in distress as flight disruptions continue due to adverse weather conditions. The Tenjing Hillary Airport also known as Lukla Airport, has been unable to operate flights due to poor visibility caused by thick haze.
According to tourist guides, visitors are at the receiving end of the adverse weather, noting that visitors have been waiting for flights for several days without success.
Dawafuti Sherpa, the proprietor of Paradise Lodge, echoed these sentiments, indicating that foreign visitors are experiencing disruptions in air services, particularly at Lukla.
Although the airport has the capacity to handle as many as 54 flights daily, no flights were able to operate on Friday, according to Airport chief Umesh Panthi. There were few flights taking off on Saturday, Panthi added.
However, helicopters have continued to make regular flights, providing some relief to stranded travelers.
Operating flights at Tenjing Hillary Airport requires a minimum visibility of five kilometers. More than 300 flights, including helicopter's, are conducted here, the airport added.
It is one of the most used airports by the tourists heading to the Sagarmatha region.
