Tractor carrying pilgrims overturns in Saptari killing 1, injuring 19


RAJBIRAJ: A boy was killed and 19 others were injured after a tractor they were travelling on overturned in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1 of Saptari district on Monday evening.

Bhardaha-based Area Police Office has identified the deceased as eight-year-old Abhinash Sharma of Inaruwa Municipality-3 in Sunsari district. The injured are yet to be identified.

According to the APO, the tractor (Ko 1 Ta 9771) ferrying the pilgrims back home in Sunsari from Chhinnamasta-based Sakhada Bhagawati temple in Saptari overturned killing Sharma and injuring others aboard the tractor, in Bhardaha along the East-West Highway. The incident took place after the driver lost control over the vehicle, police informed.

Some severely injured have been receiving treatment at Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital while others have already returned home following the treatment at local Shiva Treatment Clinic, informed police.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the ill-fated vehicle and carried out further investigations into the incident.
