Traffic police intensify checking

District Traffic Police Office of Tanahun has intensified checking of vehicles of late.
According to Tanahun DTPO in-charge Sub-inspector Resham Bahadur Ranabhat, the office has been conducting surprise checking, checking for driving under the influence of alcohol and substances and also carrying out regular checking.
“Anyone found to be driving in violation of the rules are detained, and they are released only after they pay the fine imposed,” said Ranabhat, adding that the fine ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500. As per the records, the office in the last fiscal year collected 13.45 million rupees in fines after it swung into action against 21,150 rule violators.
“In the past six months of the current fiscal, some 10,764 vehicle drivers have faced the music. We have collected 7.25 million rupees in fine from vehicle owners,” said the office’s information officer Meghnath Poudel. We have two female traffic police officers who are regularly involved in checking vehicles, Poudel said.
