Transporters to check fleecing of commuters

Kathmandu, November 4:

The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) has vowed to punish transporters who have hiked transport fares.

“We will take action against transporters if they are found to have hiked the fares,” FNNTE president Dinesh Bhandary said. The FNNTE has decided to wait for the report of a committee formed to study all aspects of transport. Those who violate the decision of the FNNTE will face action, he said.

Bhandary said that the government has allowed taxis, trucks and microbuses to adjust fares on the basis of competition. “Gas-operated vehicles have not increased their fares,” he claimed.

“I won’t let the FNNTE become irresponsible to the people,” Bhandary said. General secretary of the FNNTE Krishna Prasad Adhikary had stated that the government should immediately increase the fares to discourage the transport entrepreneurs from collecting fares as per their wish.

Bhandary claimed that the FNNTE has initiated action against the transport entrepreneurs defying the FNNTE’s decision, adding that it has warned a transport entrepreneur of Rolpa.
