Tube well water not potable

Arsenic concentration in the tube wells of Nawalparasi is well beyond permissible limits, according to a test conducted by the UNICEF. The test found that 18 per cent of the total tube wells here are contaminated with arsenic, a harmful chemical.
The concentration of arsenic in such tube wells is 500 ppm, the highest in the Terai districts.
There are 32, 000 tube-wells in 53 VDCs and one municipality of Nawalparasi. As many as 200 people of the district are suffering from arsenic-induced ailments.
