Two arrested with pangolin scales in Bhaktapur

KATHMANDU: Police arrested two persons in possession of Pangolin scales from Bhaktapur Municipality-10 on Monday.

The arrestees have been identified as Shyam Bahadur Tamang (27) and Bishal Tamang (17), both of Mandandeupur Municipality-8 in Kavrepalanchok district.

A team of police deployed from Maharajgung-based Central Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police arrested the duo with 380 grams of scales from Kamalbinayak Chok yesterday.

Pangolins are listed in the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List of Threatened Species. The Government of Nepal has also listed two pangolin species in Schedule I of the National Park and Wildlife Conservation (NPWC) Act, 1973.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
