KATHMANDU: Two people were arrested on charge of slaughtering a cow in Burju Rural Municipality-5 of Sunsari district on Thursday night, police said.

The arrested have been identified as Kalam Ansari (48) and his brother Sawadin Ansari (38).

A combined team of police deployed from Sitagunj and Chimadi Area Police Office on patrol arrested the brothers red-handed while they were slaughtering cow in the courtyard of Lukman Ansarim a local, yesterday.

The slaughter of cow, the national animal of the country, is punishable under the new constitution of the country.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway said police.
