Two construction workers die after falling off bridge

At least two workers employed for the construction of a suspension bridge over Begkhola in Raguganga Rural Municipality-1 died after falling off the bridge in Myagdi yesterday.

The deceased have been identified as Dhan Bahadur Chhetri and Puran Chhetri of Mahonyal Rural Municipality, Kailali.

The suspension bridge, which is being built at the highest altitude and is said to be the longest bridge of its kind in the country, was under construction for the past three months. The bridge will connecting Beg and Baduk villages.

“The workers duo died after falling from the under-construction bridge and their bodies

were recovered from the banks of the stream after an hour,” said ward chairperson Bil Bahadur Phagami.

The bodies have been kept at District Hospital Beni for postmortem. Inspector Santosh Roka said preparations to hand over the bodies to relatives were on.

A total of 90 per cent work of the construction has been completed. The 365.8-metre long bridge is being constructed at a cost of 33.2 million rupees.
