Two cops hurt in attack

Mahendranagar, January 19:

Two policemen were injured when the Maoists attacked the security personnel posted in the security check post at Mahendranagar the district headquarters of Kanchanpur this afternoon.

Two Maoists, who had come on a motorcycle, had fired indiscriminately using AK-47 rifle at the security personnel at around 1 pm, District Police Office, Kanchanpur, said.

Police constables Mohan Dev Joshi of Sittad-5, Baitadi, and Prem Saru Magar of Dodhara-2, Kanchanpur, were injured from the bullets.

Constable Joshi has sustained bullet wounds in his right leg while Magar has bullet wounds in his left leg. The injured constable duo have been taken to Bareli, India, for treatment. Two suspicious persons have been arrested soon after the incident.

Meanwhile, eight employees of Mahendranagar municipality, who had been arrested during an investigation on bomb explosion at the municipality building, have still not been released.

Those employees had been arrested at the orders of Zonal Administrator Mahendra Maan Byathit.
