Two dead as tipper carrying wedding party overturns in Sindhuli

KATHMANDU: Two persons died and several others sustained injuries after a tipper truck they were travelling on, overturned on the roadside along the in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-2 of Sindhuli district on Wednesday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Krishna Maya Majhi (22) and Chunpai Lama (16) of Temal Rural Municipality-9.

According to Kavre District Police Office (DPO), the tipper (Ba 4 Kha 9438) carrying wedding attendants to Temal of Kavrepalanchok district from Kathore area of Khandadevi Rural Municipality-1in Ramechhap district ran out of control and overturned killing Majhi and Lama, and injuring others aboard the truck, along the BP Highway, at Kamerephant, at around 6.30 pm, yesterday.

Police said, all the injured were rushed to Dhulikhel Community Hospital where Majhi and Lama died during the course of treatment. Likewise, Dinesh Tamang (12) and Niraj Majhi(12) of Temal-9 were referred to Kathmandu-based National Trauma Centre for treatment while seven others were sent to various health institutions in Kathmandu for further treatment, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Rabiraj Khadka at the DPO. He added that others injured in the incident were receiving treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, police have impounded the ill-fated truck and detained its driver Khadak Majhi (37) of Khandadevi.

Further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
