Two held for death of ward chair

Phidim, March 31

Police today arrested two persons in connection with the death of a ward chair in Hilihang Rural Municipality, Panchthar.

The arrested have been identified as Bhim Yokpangden  and Subash Yokpangden of the rural municipality. Police said Bhimwas  arrested from his house while Subash was held from Itabhatta of Phidim.   The Yokpangden duo allegedly thrashed Ward No 7 chair of the rural municipality Tirtharaj Timisina, while the latter was inspecting a road on March 25.

Acting chair Gopi Bhandari of the rural municipality through the press meet today claimed that the Yokpangden duo had beaten 64-year-old Timsina indiscriminately after an electric wire was split while expanding the roads using excavator.

Timsina was a patient of diabetes and high blood pressure. “Timsina breathed his last yesterday after he fell sick due to injuries he sustained in the incident,” he added. He demanded action against the duo.

Information Officer Bigyan Basnet at District Police Office, Panchthar, said Timsina had filed an FIR on Thursday, claiming that the Yokpangden duo had beaten him up. Police said Timsina was in physically and mentally weak condition after the incident. He was admitted to Phidim-based Pathivara Hospital after his condition worsened, said police.

Doctors at the hospital referred him another health facility for further treatment after the treatment was impossible in Pathivara Hospital.
