Two held with undeclared gold in Dhading
DHADING: Police said two persons were arrested in possession of undeclared gold from Majhimtar in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-9 of Dhading district, on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a bike (Na 58 Pa 6553) and apprehended biker Santosh Basnet, 35, of Chetrapur in Bharatpur Municipality-2 and pillion-rider Gokulman Shrestha of Madhyabindu Municipality in Nawalparasi district at Majhimtar along Prithvi Lokmarga around 5:00 pm yesterday.
Police seized five pieces of illegal gold-like yellow metal weighing 24 tola in total, hidden inside a bag. As per the current market rate, the precious yellow metal is valued around Rs 16.44 million.
It has been learnt that the suspects were heading to Chitwan district from Kathmandu with the consignment.
Police also seized the motorbike, two sets of mobile phones, SIM cards and a bag used for smuggling gold, Dhading District Police Office Spokesperson, Police Inspector Bholaman Singh Adhikari, said.
According to Area Police Office, Gajuri, the alleged smugglers have been sent to Department of Revenue Investigation, Hariharbhawan, in Lalitpur, for further investigation and action.
Meanwhile, further investigation is underway, according to police.
