2 killed, 14 injured in Makawanpur bus-tipper collision

KATHMANDU: Two persons were killed and 14 others were injured after a bus they were boarding, collided with a tipper along the East-West Highway in Manahari Rural Municipality-6 of Makawapur district on Wednesday morning.

The District Police Office, Chitwan, identified the victims as Keshab Bahadur Rai (23) of Panchkhapan Municipality-6 in Sankhuwasabha district and an Indian national Mohammad Sahuddin (30).

The bus Na 5 Kha 6123 en route to Jhapa from Kathmandu collided head-on with the tipper (Na 4 Kha 83) heading towards Chitwan from Manahari, injuring the passengers at Sunachuri, Naya Basti at around 7:50 am today, according to the DPO.

Rai and Sahuddin breathed their last on the way to the Bharatpur-based Purano Medical College, according to the Superintendent of Police Basanta Kumar Lama.

All of the injured are undergoing treatment at the Medical College. Police said that four of the injured are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the heavy four-wheeler has been impounded and its driver has been detained for the further investigation into the case, said police.
