Two killed in attacks

Kapilvastu/Bhairahawa, June 2 :

A three-year-old son of a Maoist cadre, Dharmaraj Barai, died and two of his children, including a five-year-old boy, were injured in an attack launched by five members of the Maoist Retaliation Committee (MRC) at his house in Phulika VDC-2, Kapilvastu, last night. Police said the Maoist’s son Majid was stabbed.

Bhagawati (18), daughter of Dharmaraj, and his five-year-old son Sanu were injured in the attack.

They are undergoing treatment at the Bhairahawa-based Universal Medical College. Sanu is reportedly in a critical condition.

The five MRC members had inquired family members about the whereabouts of Dharmaraj Barai. They attacked the family members as the latter said Dharmaraj was not in the house, Bhagawati Barai said.

Dharmaraj and his wife have gone to the capital for taking part in the Maoists’ mass meet.

According to locals, Ram Milan Kharbind of Phulika Village Development Committee-3, Chhotahi Pradhan and Pappu Musalman of Baghkhor Village Development Committee were among those who attacked the family members of Dharmaraj.

The Kapilvastu District Police Office (DPO) said an investigation into the attack was under way.

Meanwhile, a businessman, Ullah Musalman, of Baidauli VDC-1, died in an attack launched by dacoits last night, the DPO said.
