KATHMANDU: At least six persons died and two others sustained injuries in the landslides that occurred in Satyawati Rural Municipality of Gulmi district, on Monday night.

According to Inspector Rabindra Khadka at Gulmi District Police Office (DPO), the landslides occurred due to incessant rain last night in Limgha area of Satyawati-4 and Thulo Lumpek area of Satyawati-3, the remote areas in the district.

It has been learnt that two persons were killed and two others were injured in the landslide in Thulo Lumpek as a house collapsed. Likewise, four persons were killed as landslide debris buried a house in Limgha. Two of the deceased from Thulo Lumpek have been identified as seven-year-old Darshan Taramu and 31-year-old Til Kumari Taramu.

A rescue team deployed from the DPO left for the onsite inspection in the early morning, police informed. Inspector Khadka informed that the phone networking system was down creating further hurdles in the rescue operation.

Further details of the incident are awaited as the site is at the distance of 70 kilometres from Tamghas, the district headquarters. The roads were also not in a proper condition creating difficulty gaining access to the area, Inspector Khadka said.
