Two murder accused made public

Kavre, June 1

Kavre police today made two persons public held on the charge of their involvement in the murder of Ishwor Thapa, 37, of Banepa, Kavre, on Monday.

Thapa was murdered at his residence at Ghattekhola of Banepa Municipality -11 on Monday night. Police made public Basanta Khadka, 18, and Raju Sigdel, 22, of Helambu, Sindhupalchowk at a press meet held at DPO Kavre.

Khadka and Sigdel had allegedly fled the scene after beating Thapa black and blue with metal rod and bamboo stick. They were arrested from Biratnagar of Morang in coordination with Morang police on Wednesday.

Khadka confessed that he committed the crime with the help of his friend as Thapa was giving his mother mental and physical torture for the past few weeks. “Ishwor had beaten my mother and taken away her citizenship and land ownership certificates that day. Hence, we beat him and ran away,” he said. According to Khadka, Thapa had brandished a knife and threatened to kill them. Sigdel, however, denied involvement in the murder.

Thapa was living alone after his wife left him four years ago. Preliminary investigation of the police shows that Thapa and Khadka’s mother had an extra-marital affair. However, they were not on good terms for the past few weeks.
