2 kids dead, 2 others hurt as monsoon-fed river sweeps them in Solukhumbu

SOLUKHUMBHU: Two school children died after they were swept by a raging monsoon-fed river in Nele of Dudhkaushika Rural Municipality-1, in Solukhumbhu district on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as an LKG grader Sagar Katawal (7) and second grader Rachana Basnet (8), both the students in Nele-based Him Shikhar Boarding School.

The duo were swept away while they were crossing the Khahare Khola, a temporary monsoon-fed river that was swelling due to the heavy rainfall yesterday, according to Inspector Pradhyumna Adhikhari at the District Police Office, Solukhumbhu.

The bodies of the deceased were recovered about 800 metres down the river from the accident site, said Inspector Adhikari.

Moreover, two others who were also crossing the river were injured.

The injured have been identified as Ganesh Bahadur Basnet (25) and second grader Sanju Katawal.

Meanwhile, police are investigating into the case.
