Two toddlers died after falling into a septic tank in Binuwa Tole, Chandrapur Municipality-10, Rautahat, on Tuesday evening.
According to the District Police Office, 1-year-old Ranje Sah, son of Gamira Sah, and 1-year-old Khushbu Sah, daughter of Jagdish Sah, fell into the septic tank of a neighbor, Hriday Paswan, at around 7:45 pm while playing. The tank was reportedly covered with plywood, which gave way under the children's weight.
Both children were critically injured in the fall. Although locals managed to pull them out and rushed them to the government hospital in Chapur, doctors declared them dead upon arrival, said DSP Deepak Kumar Raya, spokesperson for the District Police Office.
A police team led by Inspector Rupesh Kumar Jha from the Chandranigahpur Area Police Office had reached the scene and began an investigation into the incident, DSP Raya added.
