Two YCL cadres abducted, killed by MJF activists

Bhairahawa, June 13:

Central member of the Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) Binod Pant ‘Jitendra’ and YCL’s Rupandehi district secretariat member Sheshmani Lamichhane ‘Mani’ were abducted and killed today by cadres of the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF). Jitendra was also the Maoists’ Gandak bureau member and YCL’s Lumbini zonal joint coordinator. Both were abducted by MJF cadres as they were going to inspect the Khurdalotan Dam on the Nepal-India border today and killed later, Maoist Rupandehi district in-charge Nirmal Kumar said.

A home-made weapon was used to kill Jitendra at Shivpur of Gowaha VDC at 11:00 am, while Mani was hanged from a tree before he was shot at 4:00 pm, YCL Bhairahawa in-charge Udaya said. Jitendra’s murder was horrendous — both his eyes were gouged out, his hands were severed and head hacked off.

Superintendent of police at the Rupandehi district police office (DPO) Rabiraj Shrestha said that Jitendra was killed at Shivapur and Mani in India’s Dali, adding that MJF cadres were behind the killing.

SP Shrestha said that the preliminary report shows that a MJF team led by Om Prakash alias Guljari abducted the two and killed them later.

Rupandehi MJF president Chandrika Yadav claimed that his party was not behind the killings and said that locals killed to protest the Maoists’ injustices.

Mani’s body was brought to Bhairahawa at 7:00 pm. According to SP Shrestha, MJF

cadres looted two rifles and a pistol from three policemen who were returning from the spot after a survey.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the MJF-affiliated Madhesi Adibasi Forum, scheduled for today at Bhadrapur, was suspended as the district administration office Jhapa issued prohibitory orders, a report from Jhapa said.

The CDO of Jhapa, Jaya Mukunda Khanal, said the orders were issued to prevent the loss of life and property.

Rana calls Prachanda to rein in YCL

Banke: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Pashupati Shumsher Rana has called on Maoist supremo Prachandra to “keep the YCL in control”.

Calling on cadres of the YCL to mend their ways, he said: “CA polls can’t be held until they (YCL cadres) reform their behaviour.” Rana was inaugurating the fourth district convention of the Banke chapter of the RPP in Nepalgunj on Wednesday. “A conducive environment for the CA polls will be created if YCL cadres express commitment that they will not create terror.”

Terming the security situation in the nation “poor”, Rana urged the government to improve the situation. “Security should be tightened for the CA polls. It will be difficult to hold the CA polls even in Mangsir if the situation does not improve,” he said, adding: “A favourable environment should be created for voters to cast their votes.”

Accusing the CPN-Maoist of still keeping its army outside camps, he said: “The Maoists are marching their armies. No party can do that.” Reminding that “the people have given the responsibility to the eight parties to hold the CA polls”, he said: “They (the parties) should not take the nation in the wrong direction.” “Democracy is for all; not just for the eight parties.” — HNS
