UCPN-M to discharge disqualified fighters
SURKHET: Even as the government has been laying the groundwork for the rehabilitation of the disqualified People’s Liberation Army (PLA) combatants in the society with various programmes, the UCPN-Maoist is considering taking them out unilaterally from the temporary cantonments.
Mahendra Shahi ‘ Prajwal’, commander of the PLA’s sixth division at Dasarathpur of Surkhet, today said that they had been planning to send the disqualified combatants to their home before the third week of December. He asserted that they decided to see off the disqualified PLA men in such a way as “the government is planning to discharge them in a rather humiliating way’’.
“The disqualified comrades should be able to return their home respectfully, for which we already initiated the process’’, he said.
According to him, the government dishonored them by deciding to give them away monetary support for poultry farming and asking them to take seeds for agriculture.
“It’s unfortunate as the government now forgot their contribution to the nation,’’ he said, adding that such a situation compelled them to take such decision.
Stating that there was possibility that the disqualified PLA men could join various sister organisations, Prajwal said, “Instead of the government, we’ll indoctrinate them in such a way that they will be involved in the welfare of the party in one or the other way.”
The PLA commander also claimed that the disqualified combatants were satisfied with such a decision. “We’ve planned to send them home by giving bus fare only. The process will be implemented in other divisions as well.’’
According to him, there are 600 such combatants in the sixth division.
