GAIGHAT: A woman, who is said to be mentally retarded, allegedly killed her four-month-old child in Aaptar village of Udayapur district, on Saturday night.

Parvati Rai (27) is accused of murdering her infant daughter using a chulesi (a curved kitchen knife) at around 10 pm yesterday.

Neighbours knew about the incident yesterday itself and took the woman under control. As the village did not have any police post, the woman was kept under control of locals overnight.

The villagers informed the District Police Office in Gaighat about the crime this morning and the DPO has deployed a team to the incident site, DPO Head, SP Tek Bahadur Gurung, said.

The Aaptar village is around 60 km away from the district headquarters, Gaighat.
