UDMF cadres attack police personnel with petrol bomb

Tension ran high at the Jamunaha border point in Nepalgunj after United Democratic Madhesi Front cadres clashed with police personnel today.

The clash erupted after the police personnel tried to save a bike rider from UDMF cadres. The biker was thrashed by agitators while he was on the way to Nepalgunj from Rupaidiha.

SI Bishnu Giri, in-charge at Area Police Office, Jamunaha, said police had pelted stones in self defence after agitators pelted stones at police personnel from Dasgaja area. The protesters threw a petrol bomb targeting police personnel. SI Giri said no human casualty was reported, but the bomb had caused a fire on the roadside.

A few police personnel and agitators were injured in the incident that lasted for around one-and-a-half hour.

The clash ended after Seema Surakshya Bal personnel stood at Dasgaja between Nepali security personnel and agitators. UDMF cadres have disrupted the Jamunaha border point for the past two days. Agitators have erected makeshift tents at Dasgaja area to disrupt the border.

Their agitation and sit-in have brought movement of even cycles and pedestrians to a halt at the border point.

Across the border on the Indian side, more than 400 heavy trucks are stranded.

A clash had broken out between police personnel and agitators on Monday night too at the border point.

As many as 103 trucks including 17 fuel tankers entered the country via Kakarbhitta till today evening. Eight petrol tankers, four kerosene tankers, two tankers carrying aviation fuel and two gas bullets entered the country, in addition to other heavy trucks.
