UDMF wants Constitution amendment before poll date

KATHMANDU: The United Democratic Madhesi Front on Friday said it would not accept the local poll date announcement before endorsement of the proposed Constitution amendment bill.

A meeting of the Front consisting of major Madhes-centric parties made a decision to this effect, the leaders informed organising  a press conference today.

The meeting had begun in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Front decided that it would hold demonstrations in major cities of the nation on Monday in order to protest attempts to announce local poll dates before the Constitution amendment.

However, the bloc observed that amendment proposal without any further revision was insufficient to address their concerns.

The meeting also criticised the main opposition CPN-UML for continuously obstructing the Parliament meeting with an intention to block the government from tabling the Constitution amendment bill and holding discussions on it.
