UML leaders want corrections made in interim statute
Kathmandu, January 9:
Barely a day after the eight-party decision to promulgate the interim constitution on January 15, a majority of the CPN-UML standing committee members put up the issue before the party leadership to initiate immediate consultation with other party leaders to make necessary corrections in the interim constitution.
The UML standing committee members told the party leadership that since the interim constitution is full of technical errors, it needs corrections before it is tabled at the HoR.
“There are errors in terms of language, grammar, including the impregnable position enjoyed
by the PM and some other technical errors in the interim constitution,” party standing committee member Jhalanath Khanal told this daily. Khanal described those as technical errors and said they needed to be corrected at the earliest.
The official statement of the party has, however, welcomed the decision of yesterday’s eight-party meeting to promulgate the interim constitution on January 15.
Khanal said the interim constitution must be promulgated on the same day (January 15) but with necessary corrections. “Those provisions that cannot be corrected before January 15 can be left to the HoR for amendment,” he added.
The standing committee members were earlier briefed by UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal about yesterday’s meeting. According to a UML leader, Nepal, after listening to the suggestions coming from the standing committee members at the party office, Balkhu, said he would take up the issue of correction before other party leaders.
The party has also called the Terai Janatantrik Morcha led by Jaykrishna Goyit to join the mainstream politics by giving up the politics of violence at a time when the country is heading towards loktantra, stability and permanent peace.
The meeting has also condemned the murder of its party cadre Krishna Neupane, who was also a party village development committee member of Sarlahi district, by a group of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha cadres.
