KATHMANDU, MARCH 17

The CPN (UML) Secretariat meeting, held on Monday, reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening the democratic system while reviewing a decade of constitutional implementation.

UML Assistant Secretary General Pradip Gyawali stated that the meeting resolved to uphold the Constitution of Nepal and safeguard its key achievements, including the federal democratic republic, inclusive governance, and social justice.

"We are committed to the effective implementation of the Constitution, ensuring political stability, enhancing public service delivery, driving economic development, and advancing necessary reforms," Gyawali told the media after the meeting.

The UML also expressed serious concern over recent anti-republican and unconstitutional activities. Furthermore, it concluded that any attempt to undermine the people's mandate or steer the country toward regression would be firmly resisted.

"The democratic republic is the outcome of the Nepali people's seven-decade-long struggle. The federal democratic republic was established through the historic Constituent Assembly, which recognized that monarchy and democracy cannot coexist. The monarchy, having turned totalitarian, repeatedly suppressed the people's rights and violated past agreements reached during various democratic movements," stated the resolution passed by the UML Secretariat meeting.

The UML observed that significant progress has been made in physical infrastructure, the social sector, livelihoods, international relations, and other areas within a short span of the republic's establishment.

UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed the meeting, briefing leaders on contemporary political issues and the government's performance.
