UML students impose Bhojpur bandh

BHOJPUR: Protesting the assault on Parvat Kumar Rai, chief of Bhojpur Multiple Campus, by Maoist students, All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) — student wing affiliated to CPN-UML — imposed a bandh in Bhojpur district today.

Normal life in the district was thrown out of gear due to the bandh. Education institutions and shops in the district headquarters remained shut. The ANNFSU also took out a rally, which started from Loktantrik Gate and later converged into a corner meet at Charbhanjyang Chowk.

Speaking at the corner meet, Saran Kumar Rai, leader of CPN-UML in the district, said that the act of the Maoist students was deplorable. He further warned of retaliation if the Maoists still continued such activities.

Issuing a press statement, the Bhojpur UML urged the local administration to immediately book the perpetrators. Sherdhan Rai, district coordinator, UML, claimed that the attack was a pre-planned in which Maoist cadres were also involved.

Likewise, district committee and campus unit of the Nepal Students Union have demanded stringent action against those involved in the attack. They also demanded for smooth running of Bachelor level examination that is beginning from tomorrow.

Free Students Union of the campus, however, warned that they would themselves take action against the culprits if the administration failed to do so. Rai, who sustained serious head injuries in the attack, is undergoing treatment at Kathmandu Model Hospital in the capital.

Meanwhile, Satyakala, Rai's wife, lodged a complaint against the Maoist students Sunita Rai, Nabin Pariyar, Dinesh Khanal, Mani Rai, Thir Bahadur Shrestha, Pawan Ghimire, among others.
