UML wings’ bandh affects life in Siraha

Siraha, November 29:

A bandh called by sister organisations of the CPN-UML affected life in Siraha today. The UML wings called the bandh, saying that the Parliamentary Probe Committee formed for the investigation into MP Hem Narayan Yadav’s murder has not yet made its report public.

The joint committee of the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) and Democratic National Youth Association (DNYA) also blocked traffic in Siraha Bazaar and in the district headquarters, demanding that the committee make its report public soon. Long and short route vehicles remained off the roads. Activists of the ANNFSU and DNYA blocked the main road of Siraha by burning tyres at different places. The protesters also staged a rally.

Dinesh Yadav of ANNFSU said the bandh was called because the probe committee formed on May 10 under the coordination of MP Anand Dhungana did not make public its report within the given time-frame. He added that as the ultimatum of CPN-UML’s Siraha chapter to the local administration a few weeks ago to complete the report by November 25 was ignored, protest programmes were launched from November 27.

Meanwhile, deputy speaker Chitra Lekha Yadav at a programme organised here urged that the probe committee should make public its report soon. She said any more delay in completion of the report would infuriate Siraha locals even more. She added that citizenship papers should be distributed to the Madhesis before the constituent assembly polls.
