UML's candidates elected as mayor and deputy of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City
KATHMANDU: UML has continued their winning streak and maintained a healthy lead over the ruling Nepali Congress in the second round of local level elections.
Shiva Raj Subedi has been elected as the Mayor of the Butwal Sub Metropolis as he garnered 23, 249 votes to his closest Nepali Congress rival Khel Raj Pandey's 20, 861 votes.
Subedi edged Pandey with 2, 388 votes.
Similarly, UML's Goma Acharya has been elected as the Deputy Mayor of the Sub Metropolis.
She bagged 25, 301 votes to CPN-Maoist Centre's Jagat Bahadur Pokharel's 14, 792 votes. She comprehensively edged Pokharel with 10, 509 votes.
UML has defeated the Nepali Congress-CPN Maoinst Centre alliance comprehensively. It has been learned that UML's panel has swept 16 wards out of 19 in the Sub Metropolis.
The second round of local level elections was held in 35 districts of province number 1, 5 and 7 on June 28.
