Locals of Gaur Municipality, Rautahat have questioned the quality of work at an under-construction bridge here after the beam of the structure developed cracks recently.

Kankai International Builders Pvt Ltd is constructing a concrete bridge over Barahawakhola in Gaur Municipality. The Division Road Office of Chandrapur had signed a contract with the company for construction of the bridge two years ago. The company had won the contract of the single-span bridge for 49.8 million rupees with August-September of 2019 as project completion deadline. The beam of the bridge cracked at a time when construction was under way. Locals have demanded that work on the project start all over again.

“The crack in the beam speaks volumes of the quality of work. The government must bring to book the contractor who has neglected the quality of work,” said a local Mohan Shreebastav.

Road Division Office Chandrapur spokesperson and engineer Madan Kumar Singh said the Bridge Division and the road division office visited the site to learn about the incident today. “We can’t say anything until the technicians’ report is out,” he said.
