UNMIN chief’s concern

KATHMANDU: Karin Landgren, chief of United Nations Mission in Nepal, expressed serious concern about the agitation launched by the Unified CPN-Maoist on Saturday.

She said that the protest programme could adversely affect the process of the drafting of the new constitution and the ongoing peace process. Landgren, who had met UCPN-Maoist vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha 'Prakash' at the later's parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar, had dwelt on the issues of integration and rehabilitation of Maoist fighters and formation of a high-level political mechanism.

Shrestha said he requested Landgren not to question their commitment towards peace and implementation of the past agreements. The main opposition UCPN-M has started a month-long protest programme demanding civilian supremacy.
