KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 15

Minister of Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhankri said the ministry was preparing to introduce a new act related to urban infrastructure in a bid to develop well managed settlements.

Addressing a programme organised on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Municipal Development Trust in the federal capital yesterday, Minister Jhankri informed that the government had accorded top priority to developing well-managed settlements and necessary bill for this was being drafted with experts' suggestions.

Ministry Secretary Maniram Gelal said the Trust would provide financial and technical assistance to the municipalities for well managed settlements.

Similarly, Natural Resources Division and Financial Commission Chairperson Balanand Poudel, and Nepal Municipalities' Federation Chairperson Ashok Byanju pointed out the need for coordination between the consumer committee and the Trust for development of local levels.

According to Executive Director of the Trust Krishna Prasad Sapkota, projects worth Rs five billion were being implemented in collaboration with various 88 municipalities across the country.
