KATHMANDU, JULY 29

United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu, who had arrived in Kathmandu yesterday, held talks with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Foreign Affairs Minister Narayan Khadka today.

Assistant Secretary Lu reached the PM's official residence in Baluwatar to call on PM Deuba. PM office later informed that they exchanged views on friendly and cooperative Nepal-USA relations. PM Deuba later took to Twitter to inform about his meeting with Lu.

"It was a pleasure to receive HE Donald Lu this afternoon and exchange views on friendly and cooperative Nepal-USA relations. I thank the US for its continued development cooperation and look forward a higher level of economic engagements," PM tweeted.

Earlier, Lu had called on Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka at the latter's office.

Lu is also scheduled to meet members of civil society and other government leaders.

The US Embassy, in a press release issued tomorrow had said that Lu's two-day visit to Nepal was a part of the regularly scheduled visit.

This is his second visit of Lu in Nepal in the last one year. Lu had previously visited Nepal on November before the House of Representatives had endorsed the much-hyped MCC Compact.

His visit at a time when issue about State Partnership Programme has become an issue of national debate has been taken meaningfully.
