Lalitpur, September 19:

A central committee member of the CPN-Maoist, Hisila Yami, today said the “irresponsible” comments made by US ambassador James F Moriarty will not make any impact on Nepal if parties are serious about defending the sovereignty of the country.

“The US ambassador seems to be more interested in Nepal’s defence system than Nepal-US relations,” she said, addressing the Lalitpur City Conference of Newar National Liberation Front (NNLF).

The US may instigate Hindu extremists to bring about instability in Nepal, she warned.

Addressing the same function, NNLF chairman Pawan Man Shrestha said: “Only through the declaration of the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas as a Newar Autonomous Republic can the liberation of the Kathmandu Valley be sanctioned.” The declaration to this effect is on the way, he said. “We only want to give the people, their civilisation and the culture a name they deserve.”
