KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 4

The US-Nepal Climbers Association Inc has elected a new executive board under the leadership of renowned climber Jangbu Sherpa.

According to the USNCA, the nonprofit organization which promotes mountaineering, environmental conservation, and community development within the Nepalese-American community, has successfully elected its new leadership.

The election, held at Nangma Restaurant in Elmhurst recently, marked a significant milestone in the organization's journey of fostering collective leadership and democratic values, according to Passang Nima Sherpa, outgoing president of the USNCA.

"The newly elected team will serve a three-year term (2025–2027) and is composed of individuals passionate about advancing the association's mission." The leadership team includes: Jangbu Sherpa (Sankhuwasabha) as President, Nima Gayljen Sherpa (Chauri Kharka, Solukhumbu) as First Vice-President, Lakpa Geljen Sherpa (Tapting, Solukhumbu) as Second Vice-President, Ang Dawa Sherpa (Loding, Solukhumbu) as General Secretary, Sarmila Thapa Magar (Samakhusi, Kathmandu) as Secretary, Domi Sherpa (Gorakhani, Solukhumbu) as Treasurer, and Dawa Ongchu Sherpa (Kurima, Solukhumbu) as Co-Treasurer.

The newly appointed board members include Kaji Sherpa (A) (Khotang, Sungdel), Kaji Sherpa (B) (Gorakhani, Solukhumbu), Dendi Sherpa (Bamti, Ramechhap), Dawa Jangbu Sherpa (Thame, Solukhumbu), Pasang T. Sherpa (Kharikhola, Solukhumbu), Chhurim Sherpa (Gunsa, Taplejung) and Kancha Sherpa (Nunthala, Solukhumbu).

The election was conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission, led by Phurba Sherpa (Chief Election Commissioner), and supported by election committee members Gelji Lama and Tshiring Jangbu Sherpa.

Newly elected President Jangbu Sherpa said that the new team is committed to advancing initiatives that promote climbing, environmental sustainability, and a sense of community. "Together, we aim to inspire the next generation of climbers while preserving the natural beauty of mountain regions for future generations," he said.

Jangbu from Silichong-1 Sankhuwasabha, is an IFMGA certified guide and a three-time Mt Everest summiteer. Jangbu also climbed K2 (1 time), Cho Oyu (3 times), Ama Dablam (9 times) and Kyajo Ri (1 time). Jangbu also made the first ascent of Gorkarpu (6,889m) and winter ascent of Langshisha Ri (6,427m).

He has also completed mountain guide course 2011 and aspirant guide course in 2010 from Nepal National Mountain Guides Association (NNMGA) under the supervision of International Federation of Mountain Guide Association (IFMGA).

He also completed International Federation of Sport Climbing Route setting judge course 2015 from Nepal Mountaineering Association, high mountain rescue course, helicopter long-line rescue course and ski course among others.

Lead climbing Instructor of Khumbu Climbing Center Jangbu has already served as the General Secretary of the USNCA.
