Valley likely to see diarrhoea outbreak

Kathmandu, February 18

With the changing climate, it’s likely that the valley will witness outbreak of diarrhoea and dysentery, so everyone needs to be sensitive about health and hygiene, suggest doctors.

According to coordinator of clinical research unit at Sukraraj Tropical Infectious Disease Hospital Dr Sher Bahadur Pun, diarrhoea and dysentery patients visiting the hospital has increased.

“The hospital is providing treatment to few diarrhoea and dysentery patients but the cases are likely to rise within some weeks,” said Dr Pun, adding that “If we analyse last year’s records during this season, maximum number of people may die this season too.”

Dr Pun shared that one of many reasons behind the outbreak of such diseases this season is attributed to the consumption of unhygienic foods. “People have started going out and eating junk food, street food and water found anywhere that increases the incidence of diarrhoea and dysentery.

The diseases become contagious especially during the months of February, March and April and people ought to be very sensitive regarding their health and hygiene.

“People need to avoid consumption of unhygienic food and water to avoid being inflicted by such diseases,” he said.
