Varsity teachers’ protest plan
Kathmandu, September 15:
The Tribhuvan University Teachers’ Association (TUTA) today announced that it will stage a pen-down in all constituent and affiliate campuses of the Tribhuvan University (TU) on Sunday (September 17) to put pressure on the government to appoint key officials in Pokhara, Purvanchal and Tribhuvan Universities, dismiss the university officials appointed by the royal regime, rename the Mahendra Sanskrit University as the ‘Nepal Sanskrit University’ and introduce a provision to make the Prime Minister the chancellor of the Tribhuvan University.
Stating that the delay in the appointment of officials in these universities has affected the functioning of the academic sector, Shiva Prasad Munakarmi, the TUTA chairman, called on the government to appoint vice-chancellors, registrars and rectors in the universities at the earliest and end chaos plaguing the education sector. Demanding that their demands be met, teachers affiliated to the Nepal University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) also staged a relay hunger strike here today.
