Vehicular movement resumes
Ramechhap, July 15
The Manthali-Khurkot road which was closed for vehicles four days ago following landslides caused by heavy rainfall has resumed from today.
Earlier, vehicular movement on the road section had been halted after it saw a series of landslides caused by heavy rainfall on the 15-km Manthali-Khurkot section. “We’ve brought the road into operation with the joint effort of the local administration, Manthali Municipality and other stakeholders,” said Chief District Officer Lila Kumari KC.
Manthali Municipality Mayor Ramesh Basnet appreciated the role of security personnel who had worked continuously for two days to clear away the debris of a major landslide near Khurkot bridge, thereby facilitating resumption of the major conduit between the Tarai and the country’s capital.
Meanwhile, a number of landslide-obstructed rural roads of Ramechhap district are yet to come into operation. As of now, almost all routes linking Manthali to rural municipality centres are out of operation.
Though the local bodies concerned are doing all they can, they have failed to bring the roads into operation, leaving the locals at the receiving end.
